The bridge carries 38,000 vehicles a day and could not be closed, and in-water work was limited to a short fish window.
We rebuilt the deck in halves using staged traffic switches and precast deck panels.
Pier retrofits used cofferdams installed and removed within the permitted in-water window.
Traffic stayed open in both directions, and the retrofit extended the bridge’s design life by 75 years.
